Hi, I’m Simi!

A certified holistic health + anti-diet coach, certified intuitive eating counselor, author, barre instructor and doula-to-be.

For years, my workouts were desperate attempts towards body perfection. Trapped in exercise rules, I’d do anything I could to get in my “sweat session.”

I’d skip classes in law school.

Wake up (practically) in the middle of the night to get all the miles of my run in.

And ignore the stress fractures in my shins.

People praised my dedication to “health” but the truth was I did NOT have a healthy relationship with movement.

I was obsessed with making my body smaller.

Exhausted.

And checked out of the areas of my life that actually mattered.

But in 2011, everything changed.

After moving from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio, I was desperate to find community. I had never done barre before because I didn’t have the “ballerina body” for it. Besides, barre didn’t sound intense enough to “count.”

But I went anyway.

I walked into Studio B Wellness. And that’s where I met Nancy, my first-ever barre instructor.

After one class, something inside me started to shift. I guess you can say Nancy’s magic like that... I felt present in my body. And more connected than ever.

“I want more of this feeling!” I thought.

So I went back.

Soon, I traded my intense two-a-day workouts and marathon training schedules for mornings at the barre. Mixed with a lot of rest. With it, I traded a self-critical voice for more self-compassion. Punishment for loving challenge. And judgment for connection.

Inside those four walls, with major thanks to Nancy,

What is barre?

Barre is a low-impact full body movement practice inspired by ballet, Pilates, and yoga.

Each class incorporates combinations of high repetitions of small controlled movements (sometimes using light weights or resistance) and stretching.

Form is cued extensively and plenty of modifications (or as we like to call them in UNMEASURED, “options”) are offered throughout class so you can feel safe and supported.

We even have a tutorial section in the virtual library for Form & Modifications. You can request a specific tutorial be added to this at any time!

How exactly does UNMEASURED work?

Upon joining, you’ll get instant access to your portal. You’ll be able to stream barre classes, 24/7. And you’ll always have the option to choose between 20-25 minute classes and longer ones (40-45 minute).

You’ll also get instant access to my playlists and meditations by Maria Tran. When there’s a live members-only pop up class, you’ll be the first to know.

Other than that, just keep an eye on your inbox. That’s where I’ll send you weekly updates about new classes that have been dropped into your portal. Plus anything else you need to know.

How can I access the workouts?

You have 24/7 access to the membership and workouts can be streamed on movementunmeasured.com after logging in to your account.

What equipment do I need?

Since you’ll likely be doing the classes outside of a traditional barre studio, we do our best to keep equipment to a minimum. For each class, we encourage you to have a floor mat, a chair, and access to a wall. You can also see a list of recommended equipment here — these are optional and not required. While the list is minimal, we still recommend trying out a few of the workouts to make sure you enjoy it before purchasing the optional equipment.

What are Simi’s professional qualifications?

Simi is an attorney turned Certified Holistic Health Coach, Intuitive Eating Counselor, and barre instructor.

After completing law school and practicing law for a number of years, she became a Certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). Shortly thereafter, she received her Transformational Coaching Method Certification through Health Coach MBA (now known as ‘Health Coaching Institute’). Simi is also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor (trained and certified by the original intuitive eating pros) and has completed additional private and group mentorships + supervision with experts in the fields of intuitive eating, HAES, and self care.

For her barre training, Simi was trained personally by Nancy Cushman Brown (master instructor and founder of Studio B Wellness) and went on to teach at Studio B Wellness in German Village, Ohio for years before it closed its doors in 2018. She's so grateful for ongoing mentorship by Nancy Cushman Brown.

How long are the classes?

There are two class options: 20-25 minute classes and 40-45 minute classes.

How many classes do I have access to at a time?

You have access to 10 classes at any time: five 20-25 minute classes and five 40-45 minute classes. As two new classes are added each week, the oldest two will be removed, so your class library is always being updated with fresh content.

I’m new to barre; is UNMEASURED for me?

If you're new to barre, you can absolutely join us. The classes are created for all levels. Each class will be full of form cues so you know what you're doing and when. Plus, modifications (or as we call them in UNMEASURED, “options”) are offered throughout the classes for you to take as needed and / or desired. Options are not just for people with injuries or who are pregnant; they’re for EVERY body! We'd love you to give UNMEASURED a try and see if you like it.

Is this safe for pregnancy and postpartum?

Every body is different. First and foremost, always consult with your physician before doing any workout during pregnancy or postpartum. Many women enjoy barre throughout pregnancy and once cleared for physical activity postpartum. Modifications are suggested within the membership to make the workouts as accessible and supportive as possible. We always encourage you to listen to how your body feels during workouts, as well. If something feels painful or off, please stop and check in with a healthcare professional.

What if I have an injury? Are there modifications?

Every body is different. First and foremost, always consult with your physician and / or physical therapist before performing any workout with an injury. Modifications and alternatives are suggested within the membership to make the workouts as accessible and supportive as possible. We always encourage you to listen to how your body feels during workouts, as well. If something feels painful or off, please stop and check in with a healthcare professional.

Will I join and then forget about it?

No way! We know what it's like to sign up for a monthly membership and then forget you ever joined. But, that won't happen with Unmeasured. You'll get an email from Simi each + every week when your two new barre classes are added to your library. 

If I’m recovering from an ED, is UNMEASURED for me?

First and foremost, always consult with your recovery team. For any and everyone: eating enough and resting enough are vital to having a healthy relationship with movement. If this is a season in your life where you need to take extended rest from formal movement, I want to fully encourage you to do that. I know it can be so challenging to do, but it's 100% worth it and so are you! Once you and your team decide that you're ready to introduce formal movement back into your life, I'd love for you to see if UNMEASURED is the right fit for you.

If I have a perfectly healthy relationship with exercise, is UNMEASURED for me?

Yup! If you just love barre (or want to try it for the first time), UNMEASURED is for you. This membership is inclusive of anyone who wants to move. So if you want to sweat, you’ll sweat. If you have fitness goals, UNMEASURED can help you meet them. This isn’t a club that’s only for folks who have struggled with unhealthy exercise in the past. That’s just who UNMEASURED typically attracts. As long as you’re happy in an environment devoid of toxic workout culture — UNMEASURED is for you.

Will I join and then forget about it?

No way! We know what it's like to sign up for a monthly membership and then forget you ever joined. But, that won't happen with UNMEASURED. You'll get an email from Simi each and every week when your two new barre classes are added to your library.

I don’t have much time to workout; is joining UNMEASURED worth it?

Think of it this way: 1 drop-in class at a big box studio will cost more than you’ll pay for one month of UNMEASURED. We have a lot of busy folks in the membership (entrepreneurs, mamas, etc.). That’s why you’ll have five 25 minute workouts at your fingertips at any given moment. So if you have time between Zoom meetings to squeeze in even half a workout — it’s worth it. Our bodies love movement, even in tiny doses.

If you’re still not sure, I suggest enrolling under the monthly membership. That way you can cancel anytime up to 24 hours before auto-renew for the following month’s billing cycle. No 30 day “heads up” required.

Acknowledgement of Privilege
